On Friday, May 12, 2017, through a community partnership involving The Centre, Lenawee Christian School, Adrian Public Schools, Gleaner Life Insurance Society, Adrian Steel, Adrian Locksmith and Cyclery, Kapnick Insurance Company, ProMedica, Re-Bicycle Lenawee, and The American Diabetes Association, the 4th Annual Spin-a-Thon for Diabetes will take place at The Centre. From 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, a record number of teams will keep their pedals “turning” for a continuous 12-hour indoor ride. Participants will sign-up to pedal a minimum of 30 minutes at their own pace and can ride as long as they wish. Teams will designate indoor cycling bikes, supplied by The Centre, for their participants/employees, and additionalbikes will be made available to community members
who would like to participate.
Community members are encouraged to join one of the teams, create their own, donate to the cause, or simply come and cheer everyone on as they ride for a cure! There is no minimum fundraising amount and no registration fee. All donations made during the event will support the American Diabetes Association.
Other free opportunities available to our community and riders on May 12 include diabetes educational talks provided by ProMedica from 9am-5pm on the following schedule:

Activities and Event Information
Promedica Diabetes Educators will be available after each talk and throughout the day to answer questions and provide information for community members concerned about diabetes.
ProMedica’s Wellness Nurse will conduct free biometric testing for visitors and riders from 9am-3pm. This testing will include height, weight, blood pressure, and body composition.
Vouchers for FREE glucose testing will be available from Promedica all day.
Adrian School of Massage will be on-site from 10:00am-5:00pm to provide FREE chair or table massage for our riders and guests, as well as information about how therapeutic massage can be helpful for people with diabetes. A drawing for a massage gift certificate at their student clinic will also be offered.
ReBicycle of Lenawee, who provides refurbished bikes to our community members in need, will be participating in support of safe cycling exercise. They will be on-site from 9:00am-12:00pm and from 1:30pm-4:00pm to offer free education on the A,B,Cs of outdoor bike maintenance (Air, Brakes, Chain), as well as demonstrating how to change a tire. They will also be glad to conduct these checks on any bikes people bring in. Information about the service they provide for our community will be available. This is great way to help people get an outdoor bike for free or at a very reasonable price so they can be active during the nice-weather months!
Finally, the American Diabetes Association will be part of our event the entire day! They will provide free diabetes risk assessments and information for people about how to prevent and manage the disease.
Please join us and invite others to this fun and valuable day of free services, resources, and support for our entire community! Call Wes Boven at 517.438.8863 or visit our information page for more info and to reserve your spot on a bike.
